Swan.my.id - Jakarta, the all-new Mitsubishi Pajero has officially returned to the global automotive stage after Mitsubishi Motors launched the latest generation in Japan on September 2, 2026. The automaker positions the model as a flagship SUV that combines off-road capability, comfort, and prestige.
The return marks a new chapter for the Pajero name, which had been absent from the market since Mitsubishi stopped producing the previous generation in 2021. Mitsubishi describes the latest model as an evolution of the Pajero philosophy, while preserving its reputation as an adventure-oriented vehicle.
Interest in Indonesia remains strong, especially because the Pajero has a long history and a substantial user base in the country. However, Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Sales Indonesia (MMKSI) has not confirmed a launch date for the new SUV in Indonesia.
Indonesia Awaits the All-New Mitsubishi Pajero
MMKSI has acknowledged the enthusiasm surrounding the new Pajero. Irwan Kuncoro, Director of Sales & Marketing Division at PT MMKSI, said the company welcomed the strong response after the SUV made its global introduction in Japan.
“Kami menyambut baik antusiasme yang begitu besar terhadap All-new Pajero sejak diperkenalkan secara global di Jepang,” ujar Irwan Kuncoro in a statement cited on September 27, 2026.
Despite the positive response, MMKSI has not announced when the model will reach Indonesian showrooms. The company is still considering the SUV as a potential addition to its local lineup. Therefore, Indonesian consumers must wait for further information about its market introduction.
Mitsubishi plans to introduce the new Pajero in stages across global markets. Thailand could become one of the first destinations because the manufacturer produces the vehicle in that country. The available information does not confirm the exact export schedule for Indonesia.
Off-Road Foundation Based on the Triton Platform
The all-new Mitsubishi Pajero retains an adventure-focused character through its construction and drivetrain. Mitsubishi builds the SUV on a ladder-frame structure based on the Triton platform.
This type of foundation supports the model’s positioning as a capable vehicle for challenging terrain. At the same time, Mitsubishi has developed the latest Pajero as a flagship model rather than a basic off-road utility vehicle.
Power comes from a 2.4-liter diesel engine that produces up to 480 Nm of torque. The engine works with an eight-speed automatic transmission, giving the SUV a modern powertrain configuration.
The drivetrain sends power through the Super Select 4WD-II system. In addition, Mitsubishi equips the Pajero with Super-All Wheel Control, or S-AWC. These technologies support the vehicle’s four-wheel-drive character and reinforce its focus on driving in varied conditions.
Modern Design with Digital Interior Technology
Mitsubishi has combined familiar Pajero cues with a more contemporary exterior design. The latest model carries elements associated with earlier generations, but its proportions now create a more modern and premium appearance.
The cabin also receives a significant technology update. A large display becomes one of the interior’s main features, while the digital multi-meter revives the character of the Pajero’s iconic three-meter instrument cluster in a new format.
This approach allows Mitsubishi to connect the vehicle with its heritage without relying only on nostalgia. The company instead presents the SUV as a new flagship that links classic Pajero identity with current design and technology expectations.
Global Debut Opens a New Chapter
The global launch answers the question of whether Mitsubishi would bring back the Pajero name. The company has now confirmed the return through an all-new model with a different position in its product strategy.
For Indonesia, the key question has shifted to market timing. Strong consumer interest gives the model an important foundation, but MMKSI still needs to confirm whether and when it will join the domestic lineup.
Until that announcement arrives, the all-new Mitsubishi Pajero remains a global flagship SUV that Indonesian consumers can follow from a distance. Its ladder-frame construction, diesel engine, four-wheel-drive systems, and updated cabin make it a notable revival of one of Mitsubishi’s best-known SUV names.
