Swan.my.id - Jakarta, Google has officially launched Googlebook, a new premium laptop category that combines Android and ChromeOS elements through its Googlebook OS operating system. The company introduced five initial models from Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo on Monday, September 21, 2026.
The launch marks Google’s attempt to offer a new alternative in a laptop market dominated by Windows devices and Apple’s MacBook. Unlike conventional Chromebooks, Googlebook targets the premium segment with higher hardware standards and deeper integration with Android smartphones.
The first lineup includes the Acer Googlebook 14, Asus Googlebook 14, Dell XPS Googlebook, HP Googlebook 14, and Lenovo Googlebook 15. Prices in the United States start at 899 dollars, or approximately Rp 16.1 million.
Googlebook Laptop Combines Android and ChromeOS
Google developed Googlebook OS as the main platform for these devices, while its hardware partners produce the laptops. The operating system combines features from Android and ChromeOS, then adds Google’s Gemini artificial intelligence directly into the user experience.
Google requires Googlebook devices to meet specific hardware standards. Each laptop must include at least 16 GB of RAM, a premium body made from materials such as aluminium, magnesium, or carbon fiber, and a laptop-class processor from the Intel Core or Qualcomm Snapdragon X families.
Googlebook OS can run millions of applications from the Google Play Store. The store will also show labels that indicate how well each application works on a laptop. The labels include “Made for Desktop,” “Optimized for Desktop,” and “Better on the Website.”
In addition, the operating system uses Google’s Material 3 Expressive design language. As a result, its interface looks closer to Android on Pixel smartphones than to a conventional ChromeOS desktop.
Android Phone Integration and Gemini Features
Google positions Googlebook as a bridge between an Android phone and a laptop. Users can connect a Googlebook to smartphones running Android 17 or later through Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Once connected, users can access smartphone files without downloading them first, use phone applications on the laptop screen, and continue activities across both devices. The approach resembles the close connection between an iPhone and a MacBook within Apple’s ecosystem.
Gemini also becomes part of the operating system. Users can open the assistant through an interface button, the “G” key on the keyboard, or the Magic Pointer gesture. Magic Pointer can understand the context on the screen and suggest actions through Gemini.
Googlebook OS also includes Create My Widget, which lets users ask Gemini to create a widget through a natural-language description. Another feature, Rambler, transcribes speech while removing filler words such as “um” and “ah.” Meanwhile, Universal File Search can search for files stored on the laptop and a connected Android phone.
Five Googlebook Models and Their Prices
The Acer Googlebook 14 serves as the entry model and the only first-generation Googlebook with a convertible 2-in-1 design. It features a 14-inch 2.8K OLED touchscreen with up to 500 nits of brightness. Its Intel Core Ultra processor works with at least 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of SSD storage. Prices start at 899 dollars.
Dell XPS Googlebook uses a compact 13-inch 2.5K touchscreen with up to 500 nits of brightness. Dell equips it with a Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processor, at least 16 GB of RAM, and 512 GB of storage. Its aluminium body carries a starting price of 1,199 dollars.
Asus Googlebook 14 weighs about 1 kilogram and offers a 14-inch 3K OLED touchscreen. The laptop uses an Intel Core Ultra processor, at least 16 GB of RAM, and 256 GB of SSD storage. Its price starts at 1,299 dollars.
HP Googlebook 14 also uses the Snapdragon X Elite processor, along with at least 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Its 14-inch 2.8K OLED touchscreen reaches 500 nits, while the aluminium laptop weighs approximately 1.2 kilograms. Prices start at 1,299 dollars.
Finally, Lenovo Googlebook 15 offers the largest display, with a 15.3-inch 2.8K OLED touchscreen. It uses an Intel Core Ultra processor, at least 16 GB of RAM, and 256 GB of storage. Its magnesium alloy and carbon fiber body also supports Dolby Atmos audio. The starting price is 1,299 dollars.
Availability and Software Support
Google promises 10 years of software updates for Googlebook devices. Buyers will also receive a one-year Google AI Pro subscription at no additional cost.
Google plans to begin shipping the laptops in the United States on October 4. Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia will follow on October 5. Google has not announced availability in Indonesia.
All five models include fingerprint scanners. HP and Lenovo also offer facial authentication. With premium hardware, Android integration, and long-term software support, Googlebook introduces a distinct option for users who want Android features in a laptop format.
