Googlebook Pre-Orders Open September 21 as Google Reimagines the Laptop

Swan.my.id - Jakarta, Googlebook pre-orders will open on September 21, 2026, marking Google’s next major step in laptop computing with Android and Gemini at the center of the experience.

Google said pre-orders will begin at 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time. However, the company has not revealed the price, the first models available to order, or when the devices will start shipping to customers.

Google introduced Googlebook in May as a new laptop category after relying on Chromebook for more than 15 years. The company describes it as a platform designed from the beginning for Gemini Intelligence, rather than a conventional laptop that simply receives added AI features.

Googlebook Pre-Orders Mark a New Laptop Strategy

Googlebook combines key Android capabilities, including access to Google Play apps and a modern operating system foundation, with the ChromeOS and Chrome browser experience. The result is a laptop platform that places Android and artificial intelligence at the center of everyday use.

Google also wants Googlebook to work more closely with users’ Android phones. The company has not presented the platform as an immediate replacement for every Chromebook, but as a new chapter in its laptop strategy.

Google said existing Chromebook devices will continue receiving support until the end of their individual support periods. Some Chromebooks could also receive parts of the experience introduced with Googlebook.

Gemini Powers New Interactive Features

One of the main Googlebook features is Magic Pointer, developed with Google DeepMind. Instead of using the cursor only to point and click, users can shake it to activate the feature.

Gemini can then understand the object under the pointer and suggest actions based on the context. For example, pointing at a date in an email could prompt Gemini to offer a scheduling action.

Another example involves images. Users can select a living room photo and a new sofa, then ask the AI to visualize how the sofa might look inside the room.

Googlebook also includes Create your Widget. Users can type a request to create a customized widget that combines information from the internet with data from Google services such as Gmail and Calendar.

Android Phone Integration and Device Makers

Google is introducing deeper connections between Googlebook and Android phones. Cast my apps will allow phone applications to open from the laptop screen, while Quick Access will let users view and retrieve phone files through the Googlebook file manager.

The first wave of Googlebook laptops will come from several major PC manufacturers. Lenovo, Acer, Asus, Dell, and HP are preparing devices for the new platform.

Every Googlebook will also feature an exterior design element called Glowbar. Google has not yet explained its complete function, leaving details about the visual feature unclear.

Chromebook Support Continues

Google has not said that Chromebook will be discontinued immediately. Existing devices will continue to receive support according to their respective timelines.

For now, Googlebook represents a shift from a laptop platform focused on cloud computing toward an intelligence-centered experience. Google wants Gemini to understand what users are doing and respond with contextual assistance.

The September 21 pre-order date will reveal which models arrive first. Until then, pricing, shipping schedules, and the final hardware lineup remain undisclosed.
