Motu Technology Maps Out Electric Two-Wheeler Expansion in Indonesia

Swan.my.id - Jakarta, Motu Technology is preparing an expansion in Indonesia’s electric two-wheeler market as the government encourages people to shift from gasoline-powered motorcycles to electric vehicles.

The electric vehicle technology company, which is based in Nanjing, China, sees Indonesia as a promising market because the country has tens of millions of conventional motorcycles. Motu believes this large user base could support the growth of electric two-wheelers.

M. Yassin Kosasih, Commissioner and Brand Ambassador of Motu Technology, said the company’s presence in Indonesia aligned with the government’s push to develop electric vehicles as part of the national industry. He also cited President Prabowo Subianto’s call for people to transition to electric motorcycles.

Electric Two-Wheeler Market Offers Growth Opportunity

According to Yassin, the government has consistently positioned electric two-wheelers as an important sector in national development. He said this policy direction had created an opportunity for Motu Technology to expand its business in Indonesia.

The company also highlights the potential savings from using electric motorcycles. Electric vehicles are described as having the potential to reduce daily mobility costs by at least 50 percent compared with gasoline-powered motorcycles.

“They see Indonesia’s potential as very promising. We have tens of millions of conventional motorcycles,” Yassin said. He added that the combination of a large market and government support strengthened Motu’s confidence in Indonesia.

SPORT EV Becomes Motu’s Product Foundation

Li Peng, Co-Founder and General Manager of MOTU Technology Group Indonesia, said products were the foundation of a brand’s identity. Motu therefore aims to develop products that are recognizable, distinctive, and capable of offering a different user experience.

The company developed its SPORT EV, or SEV, concept around three principles: User Sync, Different, and Superior Performance. These principles guide the company in translating user needs into design, technology, performance, and riding experience.

Motu combines Mecha elements, an Eagle Eye concept, and a Color, Material, Finish approach in its design language. The SPORT EV identity includes a modern and futuristic appearance, racing-inspired materials, sporty performance for daily use, functional smart features, and broad personalization options.

The company has developed 21 main technologies under two groups: Super Sport Performance and Super Intelligent System. The technologies include riding modes, dynamic lighting, Bluetooth audio, simulated racing sound, power assistance, side-stand power cut protection, GPS positioning, NFC unlocking, cruise control, traction control, hill-start assistance, and other functions.

Motu Prepares New Models and Dealer Network

Motu applies the SPORT EV identity across several product lines. The T Series includes the TT, T5, and T6, while the M Series consists of the M3, M5, and M5B. The O Series includes the 02 Nailoong Edition and 04.

The company is also preparing a gradual portfolio expansion. The T3 and T4 are scheduled to enter a transition phase in October. The next phase for the M Series and O Series is scheduled to begin on October 1, followed by the T Series on November 1.

The ADV, X7, and X1 models are projected to arrive in December. The second-generation SPORT EV lineup, including the M6, is planned for release after Eid al-Fitr in 2027.

To support market penetration, Motu is targeting approximately 140 dealer locations across Indonesia. Yassin said the outlets would not only sell products but also carry a consistent identity and appearance based on the company’s design concept.

Focus on Technology and Future Motorcycle Sales

At present, Motu Technology remains focused on electric bicycles. The company targets the development and marketing of electric motorcycles starting next year.

Motu also aims to strengthen its position in Indonesia’s electric vehicle sales competition. Yassin said the company currently ranked fifth in sales and hoped to compete for the top position by the end of the following year or in 2028.

To reach that goal, Motu plans to continue developing its technology and improving product features. The company believes attractive features and stronger internal development capabilities will help it compete with other products in Indonesia.
