Swan.my.id - Microsoft has opened pre-orders for the Surface Laptop Ultra, a premium 15-inch machine built for demanding creative work and local artificial intelligence tasks. The laptop combines an NVIDIA RTX Spark Superchip with up to 128GB of unified memory, aiming to bring substantial computing capacity into a portable aluminum design.

Orders opened on October 7, 2026, and Microsoft plans to begin shipping the device on October 16. US prices range from $2,599.99 to $5,899.99, equivalent to approximately Rp44.2 million to Rp100.3 million at an assumed exchange rate of Rp17,000 per US dollar. Those conversions exclude taxes and import costs.

Surface Laptop Ultra focuses on demanding AI workloads

At the heart of the laptop, NVIDIA’s RTX Spark Superchip combines a Grace CPU with a GPU based on the Blackwell architecture. Buyers can choose configurations with up to 20 CPU cores and as many as 6,144 CUDA cores. The shared memory options span 24GB, 32GB, 48GB, 64GB and 128GB.

Unified memory lets the CPU and GPU draw from the same pool, a design that can help with tasks requiring large amounts of data. Microsoft says the platform can deliver up to one petaflop of AI computing performance. The company also says the laptop can run AI models with more than 120 billion parameters locally.

Those figures describe potential capabilities rather than a guarantee for every workload. Actual performance will depend on the model, software and laptop configuration. Still, the system is aimed at people who want to experiment with or run demanding AI workloads without relying entirely on remote computing.

That focus also suits professional creators and software developers. Large creative projects, development workflows and AI experimentation can all place heavy demands on processing and memory. Microsoft positions the Surface Laptop Ultra as its most powerful Surface laptop yet, though the high-end configurations also push its price into workstation territory.

A bright mini-LED screen and upgraded cooling

The 15-inch PixelSense Ultra touchscreen uses a mini-LED panel, with peak HDR brightness of up to 2,000 nits. That high brightness may help when viewing HDR material or working with detailed visuals. However, the stated peak figure applies to HDR brightness, not necessarily the display’s typical brightness across everyday use.

Microsoft has also enlarged the haptic touchpad by 30% compared with the previous 15-inch Surface Laptop generation. Meanwhile, the cooling system offers up to 2.5 times the thermal capacity of that earlier model. More cooling capacity matters in a compact computer designed to sustain demanding work, although real-world results will depend on the workload and configuration.

The aluminum chassis measures less than 18mm thick and weighs under 2.04kg. Buyers can select Platinum or Nightfall finishes. Together, those dimensions give the laptop a relatively portable format for a device intended to handle heavy computing, although its weight remains a consideration for people who travel frequently.

Ports, external displays and replaceable storage

For connections, the laptop includes three USB-C ports, HDMI, USB-A, an SD card reader and a 3.5mm audio jack. It can support up to three external 4K monitors, offering room for multi-screen editing or development setups. The range of ports also means users can connect common accessories without relying solely on USB-C adapters.

Microsoft’s Magnetic Connect feature uses a magnetic USB-C charging cable that can detach if someone pulls it. The USB-C port remains available for data transfer and video output, so charging does not take up one of the laptop’s connections. This could be useful at a busy desk, where cables are more likely to get snagged.

Storage is another practical feature. The NVMe SSD can be removed and replaced, giving users the option to change or upgrade the drive when needed. That flexibility can extend the device’s usefulness, though the listed configurations pair memory options with specific storage capacities rather than detailing every possible upgrade.

US pricing and configuration choices

Microsoft’s US Store lists five memory and storage combinations. Converted figures use the stated Rp17,000-per-dollar assumption; they are estimates, not local retail prices.

  • 24GB memory, 512GB SSD: $2,599.99, or about Rp44.2 million.
  • 32GB memory, 1TB SSD: about Rp56.1 million.
  • 48GB memory, 1TB SSD: about Rp68 million.
  • 64GB memory, 1TB SSD: about Rp73.1 million.
  • 128GB memory, 1TB SSD: $5,899.99, or about Rp100.3 million.

The lowest-priced configuration provides 24GB of memory and a 512GB SSD, while the top option raises memory to 128GB and includes a 1TB SSD. The supplied prices for the middle configurations are converted estimates. Exchange-rate movements can change the rupiah equivalents, and taxes or import expenses would add to the final cost.

Surface devices are not officially sold in Indonesia, so prospective local buyers should not treat these US figures as confirmed Indonesian prices. Availability and final costs may differ if the laptop reaches the country through other channels. With shipments scheduled to start October 16, the Surface Laptop Ultra’s appeal will ultimately rest on whether its AI capabilities, display and upgradeable storage justify a starting price above $2,500.
